Ten areas for a sustainable future

In tackling complex challenges like social welfare, climate change and public health we have to think and do things differently. At Vinnova, we believe this means focusing on ten areas that are vital in creating a sustainable society.

Innovative products and new technologies cannot single handedly manage the change to a sustainable future. We need to think innovation at all levels and in our way of working, governing and cooperating.

To succeed we need clear goals and long-term initiatives. But we also need innovative solutions to work together with the infrastructure and regulations they coexist with.

In our ten chosen areas we stimulate innovation in the broadest sense:

  • We mobilise actors from different parts of society towards a common objective
  • We identify what needs to be done
  • We fund research and innovation

We involve different organisations and a wide range of competencies. Sustainability, gender equality and international competitiveness are prioritised themes in all ten areas.

Sustainable food systems

Making our food systems sustainable is vital in ensuring healthy people and a healthy planet

Moving people and goods in a resource-efficient, fast and safe way while avoiding negative effects on climate and health
Sustainable precision health

Creating more accurate and equal methods for promoting health and wellbeing, as well as preventing disease
Sustainable built environments

Focus on reducing climate impact on our communities, and promoting healthy living environments
Digital transformation

New digital services and technologies are key in achieving a sustainable society
Ecosystems for innovative companies

Innovative companies are crucial for Sweden's welfare and competitiveness
Future skills supply

A nation of knowledge has to be an attractive country for both companies and people
Public sector and civil society

We want to make it possible for civil society and the public sector to contribute to innovation
Emerging innovations

Detecting and acting on embryonic change and uncertain signs from all corners of the world
